Emigrating with children

School, childcare, and family life in the Tucán Valley

Anyone emigrating to Paraguay with children will sooner or later ask themselves the same question: How does school and childcare work around here?

In Valle Tucán, our guarded residential community not far from Asunción, the first families with children and adolescents are now living. This is reason enough to take an open and concrete look at the topic of education and growing up.

School in Paraguay – a brief overview

In Paraguay, a SCompulsory attendance from the sixth year of life, the school year begins in February. The spectrum is broader for expats than many expect: from free public schools to private and international institutions, to homeschooling and unschooling, which is common among foreign families and tolerated in practice. German-language online schools are also possible. In short, there isn't the one away, but for almost Every family a suitable solution.

The international school - and how the children get there

Among the families in Valle Tucán, the current choice is one Private school in San Bernardino. She teaches in English, supplemented by Spanish, and follows an internationally recognized curriculum – a solid foundation for children who wish to make their way outside of Paraguay later on.

A whole Practical advantage:

There is already a fixed route from the settlement to the international school Carpool. Currently, they are used by young people between 15 and 18 years old who travel to school together from here. Families who join later don't have to organize the school route on their own; they will find an established solution. Since Valle Tucán only near Asunción are located, the schools there are easily accessible.

A close alternative: Waldorf-inspired childcare

For younger children, there is one very close by – about 20 minutes away – a Spanish-speaking Childcare, which, according to the values of Waldorf education works. A big plus for newly arrived families: the educator also speaks English, so that the Getting started even without Spanish knowledge succeeds. Currently, children's groups of five to ten children meet there – small enough for a lot of personal attention and fast friendships.

This way, the offer is a nice alternative for families who want to give their children a gentle, playful introduction to the Spanish language and who want to experience a new environment. Especially in the first few years after emigrating, many parents appreciate this very mix of loving care and natural language acquisition. Because demand is constantly growing, we will soon dedicate a separate, detailed article to this topic – so it’s worth staying tuned.

Growing up in Valle Tucán: forest, playground, animal park, and creative house

Besides school and childcare, one thing matters most to most parents: how their children grow up day by day. Valle Tucán is nestled in lush subtropical nature – on 24 hectares with generous plots, plenty of space and a safe, friendly neighborhood where people know each other.

In addition around 30 more hectares of forest and a stream that belong directly to the settlement. For children, this is a natural adventure playground: trees to climb, water to discover, and plenty of space to be outdoors – something that many families in Europe lack.

So that the youngest ones here get their own place, there are Playground, a Zoo and a Creative House planned. Children growing up within the settlement should be able to move freely, meet, and play with peers there – a safe space for playing, crafting, and making friends, right in the heart of the community. For many families, this blend of security, nature, and a free, carefree childhood the real reason for the move to Paraguay. And the community grows year after year.
