!VIVA PARAGUAY!

Emigrate to Paraguay

Paraguay is one of the most dynamic emerging countries in Latin America, alongside Brazil, Argentina, and Bolivia. It is characterized by rapid economic growth and pursues one of the few market-oriented government approaches on the entire continent. Paraguay is an attractive emigration destination for a variety of reasons.

Attractive country for emigration

The people

Paraguay is characterized by the warm hospitality of its locals, who welcome strangers as friends, making life in Paraguay particularly pleasant. Cultural proximity and the widespread use of the easily learnable Spanish language facilitate adjustment and promote a positive life experience in this welcoming country.

The location

Paraguay impresses not only with its stable power supply, largely secured by the impressive Itaipu hydroelectric power plant, but also with its generous land area and comparatively low population density. The Itaipu hydroelectric power plant, one of the largest in the world, supplies not only Paraguay but also Brazil with clean and sustainable energy, making the country's energy supply particularly reliable. The country lies above the Guaraní Acuífero, one of the largest freshwater reservoirs in the world, making Paraguay a particularly water-rich country. This valuable resource not only secures the drinking water supply but also offers excellent conditions for agriculture. The fertile soils and abundant water enable the cultivation of a wide variety of crops and contribute to the country's self-sufficiency and export economy. Paraguay also boasts a pleasant subtropical climate, making a stay even more attractive. The mild winters and warm summers create ideal conditions for pleasant outdoor living. The climatic conditions also promote a rich flora and fauna, which delights nature lovers. From its lush forests and green landscapes to its numerous rivers and lakes, Paraguay offers a diverse and beautiful environment. Located in the heart of South America, Paraguay offers affordable direct flights to Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. This strategic location provides an ideal base for affordable travel to neighboring countries and enjoying the region's diversity.

LOW COST OF LIVING

The low cost of living in Paraguay makes the country particularly attractive for many retirees. Even a monthly budget of 600 euros is enough to live comfortably there. The cost of living in Paraguay is significantly lower than in Germany, and you can save a total of around 60 to 70 euros on everyday expenses. These savings are particularly significant if you live in a rural region. In such areas, rents are lower, and fresh produce from the market is cheaper and often of higher quality. However, if you want to live in the capital, Asunción, and eat out regularly, expenses will be correspondingly higher. In urban areas, rents and restaurant prices are higher, and the range of international products can incur additional costs. Nevertheless, life in Paraguay remains affordable compared to Germany, and the high quality of life, combined with low costs, is attracting more and more expats.

MANY GERMAN-SPEAKING EMIGRANTS

Paraguay has a significant German-speaking population, including many expatriates. Therefore, people in the healthcare system, notaries, and other professionals also speak German, which facilitates integration after emigrating to Paraguay. Many of them gather in residential areas like Valle Tucan to live together under improved living standards. A wave of German immigration to Paraguay began as early as the 19th century. Even during the Nazi era, some Germans found refuge in Paraguay to escape the political regime in Europe. These immigrants quickly integrated and contributed to the country's cultural and economic diversity. The German-speaking community in Paraguay is well integrated today yet proud of its roots. German is spoken in many communities, and there are German schools, churches, and cultural associations that keep this heritage alive. These communities help ensure that Paraguay remains an attractive destination for German-speaking expatriates.

Simple entry requirements for Germans

German citizens can enter Paraguay without a visa, based on a bilateral agreement between Germany and Paraguay that regulates mutual visa-free travel. Only a valid passport is required upon entry; an identity card is not sufficient. The maximum length of stay as a tourist is 90 days. With a one-time extension, the stay can be extended to a total of 180 days. For longer stays, Germans must apply for a residence permit from the immigration authority, the Dirección General de Migraciones.

Uncomplicated procedure for residence permit

Duration of the entire procedure: approx. 4 months.

To apply for a residence permit in Paraguay, German citizens must complete various documents and follow various steps, which vary depending on the type of residence permit. These procedures can be completed either abroad through a Paraguayan consulate or directly in Paraguay with the Dirección General de Migraciones.

In general, the following documents are required:

  1. Birth, marriage or divorce certificate to confirm marital status.
  2. Police clearance certificate for the last five years.
  3. Police clearance certificate issued by the National Police of Paraguay.
  4. Health certificate issued by a licensed physician and certified by the Ministry of Health.
  5. Certificate of life and residence issued by the local police station or court.
  6. Proof of entry and stay in the country.
  7. Consular visa (if required).
  8. Two color photos (2.5 x 2.5 cm).

Additional requirements for permanent residence

  1. Proof of financial capacity, either through: a. Bank, cooperative, or financial statement of at least 350 daily rates (approximately PYG 28,438,200 or the equivalent in dollars, approximately EUR 3,502). b. Waiver of the down payment upon presentation of certain documents, such as a university diploma, employment contract with salary information, proof of at least 5 hectares of agricultural land, or a company shareholder certificate.

Paraguay offers a cost-effective way to obtain a residency permit. A similar residency permit in other countries, such as Spain or Costa Rica, could cost considerably more, at least $3,000 to $7,000.

Attractive tax advantages

anonymity

The Paraguayan Cédula makes it possible to open international bank accounts in a country that does not participate in the automatic exchange of information, which may make emigration to Paraguay attractive.

Tax exemption

Paraguay offers the advantage that income from foreign sources is completely tax-free. Only local income is taxed, with a maximum rate of up to 10%, making emigration to Paraguay financially advantageous. This tax regime makes Paraguay an attractive destination for those seeking to generate international income while benefiting from favorable tax rates while enjoying life in Paraguay.

stability

Compared to other American countries, Paraguay has a low debt-to-GDP ratio, at approximately 40% of gross domestic product. By comparison, the debt-to-GDP ratio is 128% in the United States and 93% in Brazil, while Paraguay's figures are much lower.
